Análise do setor de transporte marítimo no Panamá (1970-2009)

Abstract

O mercado de transporte de cargas está em franca expansão e a globalização comercial exige maior eficiência no transporte a longas distâncias. Foi feita uma ampla análise da importância do setor de transporte marítimo no Mundo e no Panamá. Os dados comprovam que essa é a principal rede de circulação das mercadorias, com menor custo, segurança e eficiência. Por estes motivos, o setor do transporte marítimo vem sofrendo alterações tecnológicas na infraestrutura dos navios, dos portos e nas estratégicas logísticas para atender a demanda de volume da carga transportada. Desta forma, o objetivo geral deste trabalho foi o de analisar o desenvolvimento desse setor no Panamá e sua evolução, dentro do quadro geral da indústria marítima mundial. Procurou-se levantar o histórico dessa indústria, caracterizar o setor de transportes marítimos, determinar as principais mudanças técnicas e operacionais ocorridas a partir de 1970. A pesquisa analisou a evolução da infraestrutura e da logística do transporte marítimo, apontou os fatores mais relevantes do transporte marítimo de cargas, identificou tendências do mercado internacional de cargas marítimas e mostrou como o Panamá está se preparando para tornar-se mais competitivo nesse mercado ao executar seu planejamento estratégico de acordo com a tendência de aumento da demanda por essa atividade. O estudo também identificou que o sucesso da navegação marítima está intimamente ligado ao crescimento da economia dos países, que o setor cresce quando a economia é pujante.

The market of cargo transportation is expanding and the globalization requires greater efficiency in transportation over long distances. Was conducted a comprehensive analysis of the importance of the maritime transportation sector in the World and in Panama. The data shows that this is the main network of merchandise traffic, with lower cost, safety and efficiency. For these reasons, ship transportation has faced technological changes in the infrastructure of ships, ports and the logistic strategies to accomplish the demand of the transported cargo volume. Thus, the general objective of this study was to examine the development of this sector in Panama and its evolution within the general framework of global maritime industry. It was aimed to study the history of this industry, to characterize the ship transportation sector, to determine the main technical and operational changes occurred since 1970. The research analyzed the development of the infrastructure and logistics of ship transportation, appointed the most relevant factors of ship transportation, identified trends of the international market of marine cargo and showed how Panama is being prepared to become more competitive in this market by implementing the strategic planning in accordance with the trend of increased demand for this activity. This study also found that marine navigation is closely linked to the economic growth of countries, that the sector grows when the economy is booming.
