O papel das publicações do ICOFOM durante a década de 1980 na construção de uma museologia científica: o caso do boletim informativo Museological News

Abstract

Esta dissertação de mestrado, apresentada ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Museologia e Patrimônio da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (PPGMusPa/UFRGS), tem como objetivo compreender quais foram as funções exercidas pelas publicações do Comitê Internacional para a Museologia (ICOFOM), e em especial o boletim informativo Museological News, no processo de construção de uma Museologia teórica e científica durante a década de 1980. Para essa análise, fizemos uso dos conceitos de campo e de capital científico, de Pierre Bourdieu, além do conceito de espiral da cultura científica de Carlos Vogt. A revista Museological Working Papers (MuWoP), a revista ICOFOM Study Series (ISS), e o boletim informativo Museological News foram analisados sob a perspectiva da produção e difusão de conhecimento científico no campo museológico. O boletim Museological News foi o principal objeto de estudo desta pesquisa, especialmente os dez volumes publicados entre 1983 e 1989, período em que teve como editor-chefe Vinos Sofka, que inicialmente considerava o boletim como um meio de manter os membros do ICOFOM informados sobre as atividades do Comitê, e no qual foram publicados muitos documentos relativos à gestão do ICOFOM, mas que durante cinco edições também publicou textos de caráter científico. As análises demonstraram que o boletim informativo Museological News foi um importante mecanismo de fortalecimento do ICOFOM a partir de 1983, contribuindo na troca de experiências e conhecimentos entre seus membros, além de ter, ao longo de suas edições e através das escolhas editoriais, adquirido um caráter de revista científica que não estava inicialmente previsto como objetivo da publicação. Além disso, consideramos que, quatro décadas após a publicação de sua primeira edição, o boletim informativo Museological News tornou-se um suporte da memória científica e institucional da Museologia, podendo ser visto como um patrimônio do campo museológico.

This dissertation, presented to the Postgraduate Program in Museology and Heritage at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (PPGMusPa/UFRGS), aims to understand the functions performed by the publications of the International Committee for Museology (ICOFOM), and in particular the newsletter Museological News, during the process of building a theoretical and scientific Museology during the decade of 1980. For this analysis, we made use of the concepts of field and scientific capital, by Pierre Bourdieu, in addition to the concept of spiral of scientific culture, by Carlos Vogt. The Museological Working Papers (MuWoP), the ICOFOM Study Series (ISS), and the Museological News publications were analyzed from the perspective of the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge in the museological field. The Museological News bulletin was the main object of study of this research, especially the ten volumes published between 1983 and 1989, a period in which its editor-in-chief Vinos Sofka, who initially considered the bulletin as a means of keeping ICOFOM members informed about the activities of the Committee, and in which many documents related to the management of ICOFOM were published, but which during five editions also published texts of a scientific nature. The analyzes showed that Museological News was an important mechanism for strengthening ICOFOM from 1983 onwards, contributing to the exchange of experiences and knowledge among its members, in addition to having, throughout its editions and through editorial choices, acquired a character of a scientific journal that was not initially foreseen as the objective of the publication. In addition, we consider that, four decades after the publication of its first edition, the Museological News newsletter has become a support for the scientific and institutional memory of Museology, and can be seen as a heritage of the museological field.
