Vozes da maternidade na poesia de Sylvia Plath

Abstract

Este trabalho propõe uma análise do fenômeno da maternidade em poemas selecionados do livro Ariel (2018) e no poema de três vozes Três Mulheres (2007), ambos da autora estadunidense Sylvia Plath. O trabalho é uma monografia de conclusão de graduação e tem por objetivo o estudo crítico do tema da maternidade e dos constructos de gênero nos poemas escolhidos da obra de Sylvia Plath. O método utilizado constitui-se pela discussão do fenômeno da maternidade e questões de gênero e pela análise de Três Mulheres e alguns poemas de Ariel conforme a discussão teórica. A análise é norteada pelos estudos de gênero e discorre sobre constructos de gênero e a da maternidade e suas manifestações e efeitos de ordem social. Aponta-se criticamente constructos de gênero e propõe-se a diferenciação ‘corpo’/ ‘sexo’ versus ‘gênero’ à luz das teorias de Simone de Beauvoir (1980) e Judith Butler (2019). O conceito de mito da maternidade é apresentado com base em Simone de Beauvoir (1980) e Elisabeth Badinter (1985). Demonstra-se possíveis origens, motivações e mecanismos de manutenção da noção hegemônica da maternidade a partir do estudo de Silvia Federici (2017) e das observações críticas de Virginia Woolf (1990). Como conclusão, identifica-se a existência da temática da maternidade, conforme conceitos apresentados, e de constructos de gênero na obra analisada de Plath e a necessidade de um maior número de estudos acadêmicos e obras literárias que desconstruam noções hegemônicas sobre o tema. O estudo justifica-se, assim, pela importância social de narrativas e análises que correspondam à pluralidade da maternidade, das mulheres e da sociedade como um todo.

This work proposes an analysis of motherhood phenomenon in a selection of Ariel poems (2018), and in the poem for three voices Three Women (2007), all of the above written by Sylvia Plath. This work is an undergraduate thesis. The aim of this work is to critically study the theme of motherhood and gender constructs in the selected Sylvia Plath’s poems. The method is the critical discussion of the motherhood phenomenon and gender issues and the analysis of Three Women, and some poems from the book Ariel as provided by the theoretical discussion. The analysis is guided by gender studies, and it examines gender constructs and motherhood, in addition to their manifestations and effects at the social level. It is critically pointed out gender constructs and it is proposed a differentiation between ‘body’ / ‘sex’ and ‘gender’ in accordance with the theories of Simone de Beauvoir (1980) and Judith Butler (2019). The concept of myth of motherhood is presented in line with Simone de Beauvoir (1980) and Elisabeth Badinter (1985). Silvia Federici study (2017) and Virginia Woolf (1990) critical observations guide the analysis of the possible origins, motivations and mechanisms that maintain the hegemonic notion of motherhood. In conclusion, it is observed that the analyzed poems of Plath hold manifestations of the issues of motherhood presented, and of gender constructs; as well as the necessity of a larger number of academic studies and literary works that deconstruct hegemonic notions of the subject. Therefore, this work is justified by the social importance of narratives and analyses which reflect the plurality of motherhood, women, and the society entirely.
