Ser é tecer : trans(bordamentos) na arte de Maria Lai

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem em vista compreender a obra da artista italiana Maria Lai (1919–2013) a fim de historicizar e disseminar o significativo legado deixado por ela para a História da Arte, ainda pouco discutido fora do seu país de origem. Para tal, tomei como objeto de estudo a trajetória e a produção da artista, mediante uma pesquisa biográfica, com o intuito de analisar e refletir sobre seu universo poético. Bem como investigar o porquê da escolha da matéria têxtil como principal suporte de trabalho na manifestação de mitos ancestrais e elementos autobiográficos. Além disso, penso sobre as estratégias criativas adotadas por Lai ao ensejar envolver o espectador na fruição de uma poética mnemônica e afetiva. Uma poética que aborda discursos potentes acerca de temas como a autodescoberta, o encontro com o outro e o despertar sensível, cuja composição final figura uma comovente sinfonia íntima — embora universal — de narrativas e técnicas manuais milenares quando atravessadas pelo olhar inventivo da artista.

This undergraduate thesis aims to comprehend the work of the Italian artist Maria Lai (1919–2013) to historicize and disseminate the important legacy left by her for Art History, still little discussed outside her country of origin. To this end, I took the trajectory and production of the artist as an object of study, through biographical research, intending to analyze and reflect on her poetic universe. As well as investigating the reason for choosing textiles as primary work support in the manifestation of ancestral myths and autobiographical elements. In addition, I think about the creative strategies adopted by Lai to involve the viewer in the fruition of mnemonic and affective poetics. A poetics that addresses powerful speeches on themes such as self-discovery, the encounter with others, and the sensitive awakening, whose final composition features a moving, intimate symphony — although universal — of ancient narratives and manual techniques when crossed by the artist's inventive gaze.
