Uma análise bibliométrica do perfil das publicações sobre controle de infecções na odontologia

Abstract

O risco de infecção cruzada durante os atendimentos odontológicos é reconhecidamente alto em função do tipo de procedimentos realizados. Sendo assim, deve fazer parte da rotina do cirurgião-dentista adotar medidas de controle de infecção. O objetivo desse estudo foi realizar uma revisão bibliométrica sobre controle de infecções na Odontologia em revistas indexadas nas bases de dados Embase, PubMed, Scopus e Web of Science até 2022. Os termos de busca utilizados foram “biosafety OR infection control” OR “Hepatitis B” OR “Human Immunodeficiency Virus” OR “COVID-19” AND “Dentistry”. Após a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, a presente revisão teve 570 artigos incluídos na pesquisa. Observou-se que a maior parte são estudos observacionais (transversais: n=238; longitudinais: n=23; relatos de caso: n=5), seguidos por estudos de revisão (revisões de literatura não sistematizadas: n=189; ou revisões sistemáticas: n=12), estudos básicos (in vitro: n=59; carta ao editor: n=4; comentário/comunicados/editorial: n=19) e por fim os estudos clínicos (ensaios clínicos randomizados: n=4; ensaios clínicos não randomizados – n=17). O país com maior número de artigos publicados os Estados Unidos com 108 artigos publicados, sendo que dos 570 artigos analisados, menos de 8% são de idiomas que não o inglês. Foi possível visualizar que as discussões a respeito de medidas de controle de infecções na Odontologia para evitar a transmissão de doenças infectocontagiosas esteve presente desde 1975, havendo um aumento rápido no número de publicações com a chegada da pandemia de COVID-19.

The risk of cross-infection during dental care is admittedly high due to the type of procedures performed. Therefore, it should be part of the dentist's routine to adopt infection control measures. The aim of this study was to carry out a bibliometric review on infection control in Dentistry in journals indexed in Embase, PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases until 2022. The search terms used were “biosafety OR infection control” OR “Hepatitis B” OR “Human Immunodeficiency Virus” OR “COVID-19” AND “Dentistry”. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, this review included 570 articles in the search. It is observed that most of them are observational studies (cross-sectional: n=238; longitudinal: n=23; case reports: n=5), followed by review studies (nonsystematic literature reviews: n=189; or systematic reviews: n=12), basic studies (in vitro: n=59; letter to the editor: n=4; comment/releases/editorial: n=19), and finally clinical studies (randomized clinical trials: n=4; non-randomized clinical trials: n=17). The country with the highest number of articles was the United States with 108 articles published, and less than 8% of the 570 articles analyzed are in languages other than English. It was possible to visualize that discussions regarding infection control measures in dentistry to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases have been present since 1975, with a rapid increase in the number of publications with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic.
