Compreensões e usos das noções topológicas durante o movimento da matemática moderna

Abstract

A pesquisa tem como problemática investigar “Que compreensões e usos das noções topológicas emergiram durante o Movimento da Matemática Moderna no Brasil?”. Trata-se de uma pesquisa no campo da História da Educação Matemática que dialoga com autores da História Cultural, em especial, Ginzburg (1989) e Le Goff (1990). Como objetivo geral, busca-se identificar os usos e compreensões que emergiram a respeito das noções topológicas, durante o Movimento da Matemática Moderna (MMM), principalmente a partir da análise de documentos escolares do acervo do Laboratório de Matemática do Instituto de Educação General Flores da Cunha, localizado na cidade de Porto Alegre (RS), livros didáticos de matemática que circularam pelo Brasil durante o MMM e narrativas de professores que vivenciaram ou estudaram o movimento em questão. A pesquisa apontou uma pluralidade de usos e compreensões sobre as noções topológicas, mas, principalmente uma aproximação entre tais noções e o estudo da Geometria pelas Transformações e da Geometria Euclidiana, como necessárias para a compreensão das estruturas matemáticas.

The research has as a problem to investigate "What understandings and uses of topological notions emerged during the Modern Mathematics Movement in Brazil?". This is a research in the field of the History of Mathematics Education that dialogues with authors of Cultural History, especially Ginzburg (1989) and Le Goff (1990). As a general objective, we seek to identify the uses and understandings that emerged regarding topological notions during the Modern Mathematics Movement (MMM), mainly from the analysis of school documents from the collection of the Mathematics Laboratory of the Instituto de Educação General Flores da Cunha, located in the city of Porto Alegre (RS), mathematics textbooks that circulated throughout Brazil during the WMM and narratives of teachers who experienced or studied the movement in question. The research pointed to a plurality of uses and understandings of topological notions, but mainly an approximation between such notions and the study of Geometry through Transformations and Euclidean Geometry, as necessary for the understanding of mathematical structures.
